Japanese Concertina Sketchbook & Mandala Workshop 1.5 hour workshop | All materials included 18th March 6.30 - 8pm Hartlepool Art Gallery Join us for a gentle, hands-on workshop combining mindful making and creative expression. In this session, you’ll learn how to create a Japanese Orihon (concertina) sketchbook using simple paper-folding techniques, working slowly and attentively with the materials. Once your sketchbook is made, we’ll move into a calm creative phase, using drawing and art materials to develop a mandala within the pages. This part of the session focuses on repetition, pattern, and presence, allowing the mind to settle as you work. No prior experience is needed — this workshop is about process, focus, and enjoyment rather than perfection. You’ll leave with a handmade sketchbook and a finished mandala, ready to continue using at home. Perfect for beginners and those looking for a mindful creative pause. Who am I? I'm Emily Carter, a fulltime artist and a qualified teacher of Art, Design and Photography for the past 17 years. I was born and bred in Yorkshire and have lived in Hartlepool for the past 20 years and went to the Northern School of Art! I have a love of colour and natural forms, creating bespoke canvases of abstract spirit and energy paintings.
